Our regular events fall into three groups – our monthly public lectures, our star gazing (solar in the summer) events at Great Notley Country Park and Abberton Reservoir and members-only events. We also run a Young Astronomers Club and occasional online Live Astronomy events.
All our events are listed on our calendar. Links to events at individual locations can be found by following the above links.

Due to the high rates of Covid, we have decided to cancel the star gazing event planned for 14 Jan 2022 at Great Notley Country Park.
We hope to be back in February.
Our inaugural cloud competition for members generated more interest than we had imagined and so once the closing date passed the entries were split into categories.

We take a look at Venus, several star clusters, a load of galaxies and even a comet in this edition of our live astronomy show. You can find out more about our Live Astronomy events on our Live Astronomy Information page or check the Event Calendar for the date and time of the next Live Astronomy event.
Important: We recommend using the fullscreen button at the bottom right of the player to enlarge the video stream.
Archives of all previous events are also available via our Live Astronomy Archives page. Recordings are also available on our YouTube Channel.
In this Live Astronomy event we take a look at a number of interesting objects in the early spring sky. We show you live views of deep sky objects from right here in Essex, as well as discussing facts and physics about them. Unfortunately due to the cloud cover we have had to cancel tonight’s event.
Fingers crossed for next time.

We are honoured that our Young Astronomers Club was recognised in the 2019 Braintree District Volunteers Awards in the Group Award category.
Many thanks to Cheryl for organising the Young Astronomers Club and to all our volunteers who give up a lot of time for both YAC and at our other outreach activities across the county.
Unfortunately we are unable to run this event and instead we will be at Planet Essex at Cressing Temple. More details here.
