Transit of Mercury

Date/Time
Date(s) - 11/11/2019
12:00pm - 4:45pm

See Mercury pass in front of the Sun.

We will be at Cressing Temple Barns for the Transit of Mercury.

This rare event won’t be seen from Earth again until 2032.

The smallest planet in the solar system is also the closest to our star, and sometimes here on Earth we can see it cross in front of the Sun. This is called a transit.

The last time this happened was in 2016, but after this one it won’t happen for another 13 years!

Mercury will look like an extremely small dot as it crosses the Sun and you will need telescopes or binoculars with protective solar filters to see it.

NEVER look at the Sun without proper specialist equipment. Permanent eye damage will result.

If it’s cloudy then there will be nothing to see, so fingers crossed. If the weather looks marginal then please check on our website and on our social media to see if we will be there. We wouldn’t want you to travel unnecessarily.
