About The Speaker
Peter was, at one time, a qualified professional photographer (British Institute of Professional Photographers) with a studio in Belfast and taught photography at colleges in Northern Ireland. More recently, Peter worked as an IT Manager.
With a lifelong interest in Astronomy, some 6 years ago Peter decided to try to photograph the views he was getting with his small refractor.
It didn’t take long for this to become an obsession! During the last few years Peter has had many images published in Sky at Night, Astronomy Now, Sky & Telescope (US) and Astronomy (US) Magazines. He was shortlisted in the Royal Observatory Astronomy Photographer of the Year in 2017 and 2018. He was awarded a NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day in 2017. Peter became a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society in 2017 and has recently been writing equipment reviews and processing articles for BBC Sky at Night Magazine. He is is also a speaker at the Advanced Imaging conference in California this May.
