A number of North Essex Astronomical Society members usually attend the Loughton Astronomical Society Equinox Sky Camp at Kelling Heath, Norfolk. Billed as the largest star party in the UK the event is a must do for every keen amateur astronomer.
With dark skies, a range of talks and trade stands on the Saturday and plenty of opportunities for
drinking socialising, it’s a great weekend.
Booking for a camping pitch is essential; these become generally available to book at the end of the preceding year’s event and sell out almost immediately. Our members can usually be found in the “Blue Butterfly Field”. Needless to say, no seriously hardcore astronomer would be seen dead here amongst the fun-loving party types!
If you haven’t secured a pitch for the 2018 event, some members drive up for the main Saturday, or even stay in nearby hotels like the feeble weaklings they really are.
Full details of the event may be found at the LAS Skycamp web site.
